Do computer simulators really help you learn to fly?
Submitted by vile8 on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 17:32In my pursuit of my pilots license I wanted to get a head start. Being in the computer industry the first thing that came to mind was to get a good simulator, so I started with X-plane.
Pilot Financing and VA loans

So I called up b-bar-d aviation and setup an appointment for an hour of instruction. They took the time to go over in great detail all the systems and components of the Allegro LSA he would be flying, and even brought him back where the cowling was off one to give more detail. They also had a number of videos to show the safety and reliability of the aircraft.

Well, my first experience after finding ATP and deciding on spending 2k to almost double of other flight programs, is that they no longer offer a private pilot program. Also I have little interest in all the multi-engine experience. As such I mentioned that I would like to pursue a private plus instrument and single engine commercial certificates. Unfortunately to follow this path it would only drop the overall price by 2000 dollars from the nearly 60,000 dollar total program.

I have been talking with numerous flight schools trying to determine who might have a program that would fit my needs. After all I have spectacular dreams of having my own plane and flying people to bermuda for the weekend, and then using it when I want to visit my family.
Well, the more I have looked into the costs and the requirements I have realized one thing. I have never been in a little plane, let alone been pilot in command... and I should do that as soon as possible to get a grip on what its like.
